My initial foray into quilting was a huge challenge! I looked at MANY tutorials. They all contradicted each other and gave a huge range of advice. There seems to be no perfect way to do this. I adjusted my pressure foot and thread tension. Tried quilting in different directions. I think what worked best was making sure the fabric wasn’t pulling at all while it was going through the machine and letting the walking foot do the movement without me interfering with it too much. This is really hard to do. I feel like my quilting improved slightly, but it is still not very good. I think this is a skill that takes a lot of practice. Next time, I may rent a long arm quilter at the fabric store which is made for quilting large quilts and may have more success. For this inquiry I will embrace my wrinkly, puckered quilt for what it is- an experiment during a pressure-filled time in my life. I’m so glad I tried this. I will do it again… but on a smaller scale and give myself more time.

Here is my quilted quilt:

Next week I will bind it and then it will be finished!
